Greetings,
The Walter/SW Express grouping was a true standout with volunteers and customers alike for the 2015 Summer Reading Program. This sentiment was shared in a wonderful and heartfelt letter by one of our superstar volunteers with the Walter Library, Miss Jassmine Gonzalez.
My experience at Walter, from early childhood to late
teens
When I remember
my childhood, I recall so many different memories. A great one I remember was
visiting the library. I would go in towards the books, content with a great
variety I had to choose from. This was at Walter Neighborhood library. Not only
would I get to checkout and read books that have helped me develop my English
skills but I would get to attend programs, which where the part I loved the
most. I have always been a very artistic and hands on person and so I would
love coming in to do arts and crafts at Walter. Then there was always a day for
story time and different movies to watch, as well as being able to come in to
use the computers which really helped a lot throughout the years. Really Walter
had it all and to this day is only advancing. I'm presently 16 years old and I
came back to Walter after a couple years to volunteer. This has really been an
eye opener I can say, all the work that is put into keeping the library as put
together and accessible for others is amazing. Walters staff is there for
people of all ages that need help finding a book, using a computer, hosting
activities for children and more. A great program that I helped with this year
was the summer reading program, this I remember being a great part of summers
at Walter because I could easily get rewarded doing something I took pleasure
in, reading. I'm just glad that we can have such a great library system in
Houston and having been here a lot for my childhood and my sister attending and
doing the same things I used to do, to being a volunteer this summer has been a
great experience. Thanks to all the friendly, hardworking and attentive staff,
I'm pleased to call Walter my library.
